A RETAILER which shut its Keighley town centre store in the autumn has now gone into liquidation, after more than a 150 years of operating businesses across northern England.

Greenwoods men’s fashion company was founded in Bradford in 1860, providing hats to the wool industry in the district.

It grew to have stores across the UK selling suits, shirts and jackets.

Greenwoods went into administration in September, and its store in Godwin Street in Bradford city centre closed shortly after. The Greenwoods store in Low Street, Keighley, had its final day of trading on September 15 2018.

Part of the business had been saved by Stockport-based Versatile International Trading, which kept 40 stores open and transferred the head office from Bradford to Manchester. However, notes were posted in the windows of remaining stores which confirmed the stores would be closed permanently.

The liquidation of the business is being handled by XL Business Solutions, based in Cleckheaton, and will result in the loss of more than 180 jobs. XL Business Solutions could not be reached for comment.
