"PRIORITY" repairs are in progress to repair the staircase in Keighley Library to enable the Local Studies section of the premises to re-open.

Bradford Council says the Local Studies part of the library, on the first floor of the North Street building, has had to remain closed since 5pm on Thursday December 20.

As yet, no date has been confirmed for completion of the staircase works.

A spokesman for the council said: "Keighley Local Studies is currently closed to the public due to a structural assessment and repair to the stone cantilever staircase on the Albert street side of the building.

"On the advice of our Building and Technical Services, Local Studies is closed to accommodate the work. The matter is being treated as a priority.

"In the meantime Local Studies materials will, where possible, be made available to the general public on request in the main library.

"However, some notice may be required to allow for resources to be brought to the ground floor for viewing.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Regular updates will be provided via the website, social media and notices displayed in the library."
