RECRUITMENT is under way for a new head teacher for Oxenhope Primary School.

Alice Jones, head of school at Oxenhope Primary, addressed members of the village’s parish council at their latest monthly meeting.

She said John Parkin had resigned as head teacher, adding the school wished him well for his future.

“I’ve been at Oxenhope Primary since 2011, after previously working in central Bradford,” she added.

“I feel it’s such a wonderful school with a real family atmosphere. We’re in a good place and are moving forward with making it an even better school.

“This year we’ve had some of the best results we’ve had in a long time and we’re excited about our next set of results coming up in July.”

She praised the efforts of parents from Oxenhope Primary’s friends group, who have recently raised £650 for the school by holding a fair and £529 through staging a disco.

She said cash raised by the school friends was being spent on buying outdoor play equipment for the children.

Mrs Jones asked councillors for help in suggesting former Oxenhope Primary pupils willing to come into the school to inspire pupils with their own life stories.

She said the school is keen to have plenty of community involvement and highlighted the impressive sporting success of its pupils.

“Some of our children have qualified to run for Bradford in cross country,” she said. “It’s possible they could go on to represent West Yorkshire.”
