A PUBLIC consultation into a proposed 2019/20 Bradford Council budget came under fire during a meeting of Oxenhope Parish Council.

Worth Valley councillor Rebecca Poulsen reminded councillors the district council budget is due to be set on February 21.

She added lack of detail in the consultation made it difficult to provide an informed response.

“A lot of it is a bit woolly,” she said. “For example, the library service is losing nearly £1 million but the proposals don’t specify how this will work.

“I’m told specifics will be released, but with the budget being set on February 21 there’s not much time left.”

A Bradford Council spokesman responded after the meeting: “We’ve a strong track record of listening and responding to concerns raised through budget consultations and make every effort to ensure people have sufficient time, opportunities and detail to make their voices heard.

“Our budget consultation information is as accessible and clear as possible while providing full detail for members of the public, external organisations and politicians.

“We encourage participation in the consultation which is invaluable in helping us shape our budget.

“Meetings continue to be held directly with parish and town councils, voluntary sector and business sector providing opportunities for feedback.

“Services including libraries, museums, public health, welfare advice and adult social care have been hosting their own consultations, offering members of the public a chance to have their voice heard directly.”
