AN ILKLEY bar will find out tomorrow if it will can remain open until 2am on weekends.

Banyan, on Brook Street, currently has a licence to sell alcohol to 1am on Thursday to Saturday, and remain open until 1.30am on those days.

The chain recently submitted an application Bradford Council to alter that licence, allowing it to sell alcohol until 2am and close at 2.30am on Fridays and Saturdays.

The Bradford District Licensing Panel will decide whether to allow the application at a meeting tomorrow.

Two Ilkley residents have objected to the plans, although the names of the objectors have been redacted.

One objector has written to the Council saying: “I think that it is time that action was taken to reduce the nuisance caused by venues in Ilkley that are open late.

“I am tired of having to ignore vomit and broken glass caused by their ‘not my problem’ attitude.”

They suggest Bradford Council add an extra levy to business rates for such late night businesses to pay for extra street cleaning.

Another objector said: “Ilkley is a small conurbation with limited resources of police and medical services, the license extension will add another strain onto these services by creating another venue that people will be able to over indulge and then require the intervention of one of these services.”

The committee will meet in City Hall at 11am on Wednesday.
