PRESSURE on police resources means it is even more important for people to report offences or suspicious activity, a Worth Valley parish councillor has warned.

Cllr Andy Longden was commenting during a meeting of Haworth, Cross Roads and Stanbury Parish Council.

Responding to Cllr Alan Watts, who mentioned his own recent sighting of a suspect person in the Lawcliffe Crescent area, Cllr Longden said: "People have got to report everything, because with cutbacks in police numbers we're going to get less police coverage up here."

The meeting was attended by police community support officer Mike Emmerson, who said there are now three PCSOs to cover the Worth Valley, compared to just one previously.

He said the West Yorkshire Police website means it is easy to report crimes online.

Updating councillors on incidents in the parish recorded by the police for the 30 days before the council meeting, he said these had included four burglaries – one each at Haworth Youth Hostel, the Spar shop in Station Road, The Hawthorn pub and restaurant in Main Street and a home in Vernon Street.

He said the same period had also seen two cases of criminal damage and a theft from a vehicle parked in Main Street.
