KEIGHLEY social housing group Incommunities has offered tips to tenants for keeping warm and well during freezing temperatures.

The group reminds its residents that free, annual gas checks are available to ensure heating systems and appliances are working safely and efficiently.

Advice for coping in the cold includes:

* Keep your bedroom windows closed at night

* Draw your curtains at night to keep heat in

* Set your thermostat to 18 to 21C

* Avoid blocking heat circulating from your radiators

* Eat regularly to keep energy levels up

* Keep cold, flu and throat remedies in your home

* Check on elderly and vulnerable neighbours

* Store contact details of utility companies, emergency services and close family and neighbours on your phone.

Steve Smith, senior operations manager with Incommunities, said: "With the onset of colder weather it is important that you keep your home warm.
