WEST END hit Motown the Musical is coming to Bradford Alhambra from April 9 to 20 with more than 50 classic hits.

The show uncovers the true story of the legendary record label that changed music history and created the soundtrack of a generation.

A live orchestra will play tracks like Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, I’ll Be There, Dancing In The Street, Stop! In The Name Of Love, My Girl, and I Heard It through the Grapevine, Charles Randolph-Wright’s production tells the story behind those songs, in an all-singing all-dancing show that has achieved critical acclaim.

A spokesman said: “The vibe is fantastic, audiences are screaming and cheering and it’s incredible, it’s like being back in one of the shows from the 70s.

“We are so lucky to be able to continue sharing this incredible music today. I love that the show appeals to every age - each audience member finds some aspect of this show that resonates with them.

“The show is infectious, and the UK truly knows and loves this music. It’s in the UK DNA. Motown continues to be more than a record label and a show, it’s a movement, and I am thrilled that this movement is travelling all over.”

Berry Gordy founded the Motown label in 1959 with just $800 borrowed from his family, and went on to launch the careers of Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye and many more.

Bradford Alhambra will host Dirty Dancing The Classic Story on Stage from January 28 to February 2 with hit songs including Hungry Eyes and (I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life.

Comedy musical Avenue Q returns to the Alhambra on March 26-30 with a mix of live actors and puppets portraying life in a downtown New York street.
