FAUSTUS will take their Cotton Lords tour to Victoria Hall in Settle on February 16, playing tracks from their new EP showcasing tracks from their ongoing Cotton Famine Poetry project.
For the last few months the trio have been sifting through publications and journals of the 19th century Lancashire Cotton Famine period, as part of a University of Exeter project to preserve the poetry of the distressing chapter of working-class history. They have set some of the texts to new music.
Faustus – Paul Sartin, Benji Kirkpatrick and Saul Rose – have played for leading folk artists Seth Lakeman, Waterson:Carthy and Bellowhead. They performed together in the band for Peter Bellamy’s ballad opera The Transports for its highly-acclaimed national tour.
Faustus were nominated in the 2009 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. Rooted deeply in the English tradition, in 2007 they received a 75th Anniversary Award from the English Folk Dance and Song Society.
