KEIGHLEY Inter-Faith Group has announced a series of events open to the public through the winter and spring.

The group will host a meeting of peace and reconciliation on February 19 at 7.30pm in Keighley Shared Church.

Those present will speak about different approaches to fulfilling peace.

There will be a meal of fellowship at Khalids Desi, on Low Mill Lane, Keighley, on March 5 at 7.30pm, and a lecture and discussion with refreshments on March 22 at 7.30pm at a venue to be arranged.

Keighley Inter-Faith Group was set up to encourage harmonious relations between Keighley’s diverse communities, and foster understanding and dialogue between faith groups.

Members meet for prayer and reflection, and to talk about mutual concerns. The group also aims to represent the views of people of faith to government, local authorities and the media.

The group grew out of a Millennium event attended by 1,000 people, and the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers in New York in 2001.

Keighley’s first quarterly meeting for Peace and Reconciliation was held the following year, attended by Muslims, Christians, Hindus and Buddhists .

Following events included a Walk for Friendship from a mosque to a church, a multi-cultural concert and picnic, and a Commonwealth Day meeting at the town hall with Keighley’s mayor.

More recently the Inter-Faith Group has looked at how faith groups can help overcome problems such as dementia, and a sharing of Christian and Muslim perspectives on Christmas.
