KEIGHLEY town councillors will host a "Lights for Dark Nights" event for cyclists in Bracken Bank.

Bracken Bank and Ingrow Ward councillors Barry Thorne, Chris Herd and Samuel Fletcher are funding the initiative, using money from the town council's ward improvement fund.

People are invited to attend and have lights fitted to their bikes for free, to help improve safety for cyclists in and around Keighley after dark.

The event will take place in the Sue Belcher Centre, from 11.30am to 12.30pm on Saturday February 9.

It has been organised by community development worker Pip Gibson, with support from Bradford Road Safety Team, Bradford Disability Sport and Leisure and the Keighley Neighbourhood Policing Team.

The scheme originated in concerns voiced late last year by Cllr Thorne. He warned that many youngsters were cycling around the Bracken Bank area during the dark winter evenings with no lights on their bikes.

He said this was extremely dangerous, adding it was only a matter of time before someone was badly hurt or even killed.
