A KEIGHLEY Bus Company team is amazing – and that's official.

Staff who run the firm's schools service took the 'team of the year' title in Transdev's third annual Amazing Awards.

Judges said the team had "managed a seamless move to a new depot while constantly providing a top-class service every day to school pupils across West Yorkshire".

In total, awards were given out across nine categories.

Staff from six Transdev bus companies in the north of England voted for their favourite nominees, whose names had been put forward by colleagues, to be shortlisted.

And more than 130 of those nominated, and their partners, attended a presentation ceremony at the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford.

Alex Hornby, chief executive officer of Transdev in Yorkshire and Lancashire, praised all the nominees.

He said: "Whether they drive our customers safely to their destination, make sure every bus is safe and reliable or provide the best behind-the-scenes support, our fantastic people are at the very heart of our shared success.

"The high standards set by everyone on the shortlist for our Amazing Awards made choosing the winners a challenge but one I certainly enjoyed, and it made me exceptionally proud.

"We believe in employing people who are happy to work with us, serving people who are proud to be our customers and creating a business which is innovative and successful.

"Those core values shine through in every one of our awards winners – we’re proud to celebrate their passion, performance and pride in delivering an outstanding service."

Other accolades presented included a Lifetime Star Award, to Alan Hornsby from Harrogate Bus Company, who joined the firm 38 years ago, and a Driver of the Year Award to James Moodie, of Burnley Bus Company.

A special recognition award went to Phil Harris, for "exceptional performance and dedication in the face of ill-health".

* Seth King has been appointed finance director with Transdev Blazefield.

Latterly he served in an interim role as financial controller with the York-based rail holiday provider, Great Rail Journeys.

The 48-year-old said he was looking forward to helping Transdev grow.

He added: "I’m delighted to be joining the company at a time when the bus has such a vital role to play in delivering transport solutions for the north’s communities.

"Transdev’s locally-managed buses provide an essential service in getting people from A to B efficiently, and in an environmentally-friendly manner."

Mr Hornby welcomes the appointment.

"Seth comes to us with a highly-successful track record of financial experience and he clearly shares our passion for amazing customer service," he said.

"As our business continues to grow across the north it’s vital that our plans are supported by a stable and sustainable approach to finance. Seth brings all the right qualities to this important role."
