KEIGHLEY Town Council will stage an awards evening next month for people who make a special contribution towards improving their neighbourhoods.

The Keighley Town Council Community Awards 2019 presentations will be at Victoria Hall from 6.30pm on March 15.

A spokesman for the town council explained: "We'd like to say 'thank you' to the people of Keighley who go that extra mile for our community.

"The Community Award Scheme aims to recognise and celebrate the work of people, groups and organisations whose dedication and commitment have improved the lives and wellbeing of local residents.

"Nominations can be made within the following categories: Neighbour Award, Volunteer Award, Community Project/Organisation, Inspiring Teacher, Inspiring Young Person, Sporting Award and

Honorary Civic Award – Town Mayor's category.

"If people know someone who they feel should receive special recognition, they are welcome to start nominating."

People wanting application forms should visit the Keighley Town Council office at Keighley Civic Centre, 81 North Street, Keighley, BD21 3RZ, call 01535 618252, e-mail Christine.Eastbury@bradford.gov.uk or download the application from the council's website.

Forms will also be available from individual town councillors and from community centres.

Tickets for the presentation evening cost £10 each, and include a three-course meal and entertainment. They can be bought via the above contact details. The closing date for nominations is March 7.

Keighley MP John Grogan said: "I'm confident that Keighley Town Council Community Awards Evening will be an inspiring event.

"I believe that every nominee will have a story of being prepared to go that extra mile to help others. They are the glue which keeps the community together and strong."

Cllr Kaneez Akthar, chairman of the town council's events and leisure committee, said: "I'm very much looking forward to this, as it will be the first initiative of its kind for Keighley Town Council in celebrating and rewarding the unsung stars of our town.

"I hope the people of Keighley will support the event by nominating those amazing people who deserve such recognition."
