FROM across the galaxy they came – to Victoria Hall in Keighley.

Superheroes, space warriors and cartoon characters descended on Keighley on Saturday (March 16) for the third annual Comic Con.

Subtitled Con Aire, the convention attracted hundreds of sci-fi, fantasy and comic-book enthusiasts for a fantastic fun-fest.

Adults and children alike went dressed as their favourite hero or villain, from famous big-screen figures to lesser-known Japanese anime characters.

Savage Beast Events had promised a variety of attractions for people of all ages including stalls, talks, gaming, a ‘cosplay’ competition and movie actors.

Savage Beast boss Natalie Gosney was pleased with the response. She said: “The first year was the biggest turn out and last year we were hit by the ‘Beast from the East’ and still had a good day, but this year has been really good.

“People in Keighley are proud to have this.”

Headline guest was Patricia Quinn, who played Magenta in the cult 1970s movie Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Returning to Keighley Comic Con following his well-received visit two years ago was Phill Martin, who appeared in the films Prometheus and Pan.

Also returning was last year’s star Ross Mullan, a familiar figure from TV shows Game of Thrones and Doctor Who.

The trio gave talks, signed autographs and chatted to the public about their experiences in show business.

A hugely popular new attraction was a life-size recreation of the iconic toilet scene from Jurassic Park where a lawyer is eaten by a T-Rex.

Natalie said: “People could sit on the toilet and the dinosaur roared at you. You could have your picture taken.

“We had a lot of children who enjoyed the day. We had magic on stage for them, and close-up magic for the adults.

“We have four children of our own so we’re used to seeing what children want. A lot of them came in costumes.”

Also doing the “meet and greet” routine were Marvel movie heroes Groot, from Guardians of the Galaxy, and Iron Man.

Several groups of fans from across the country went in costumes, such as the Super Heroes Cosplay Group and the Star Wars-mad East Midlands Garrison.

Life-size exhibits included a Dalek and Tardis from Doctor Who, a land speeder from Star Wars, and an Aliens recreation.

Natalie said Keighley Comic Con would definitely be held next year, but she hoped to book a later date when the weather might be better.

On Saturday, Rich Reynolds performed close-up magic, while children were also entertained by Pirates with Parrots, the Charms and Enchantments Wand School, and Guinness World Record-holding balloon modeller Tom Tricks.

Gaming fans were treated to multiplayer games on a split-screen PS4 and a shooting range.

Natalie said the “very fantastic” East Midlands Garrison visited to collect for children’s cancer charity PASIC.

They took along not only their Star Wars helmet display and a troop of Star Wars costume characters, but also scenes of Han Solo in Carbonite and a probe droid.
