A SCHEME designed to cut down on dog fouling in Oakworth has been heralded an "early success" by its creators.

Councillors Luke Maunsell and Mark Curtis, who represent Oakworth on Keighley Town Council, commented after their Keep Oakworth Tidy initiative was launched earlier this year.

Cllr Maunsell, who initially came up with the idea, said: "Me and Cllr Curtis have now fitted the last of the six professional, free dog bag dispensers throughout the village.

"Some ad hoc ones now need to be strategically placed in key areas but so far we are delighted by the initial responses to our work.

"Two of our dog bag dispensers have already needed refills and residents have been really engaged in the project.

"There is also a growing awareness of how disgusting dog fouling is and how every resident can take action to tackle the problem.

"This issue was raised by residents who responded to my recent 'Oakworth Community Survey'. Subsequently, Mark and I have been doing what we can to address these concerns.

"We will monitor the effectiveness of the dispensers over the next few months and we hope to expand the project in due course.

"I'd like to thank Debbie Ives for leading on arranging the ad hoc dispensers, as well as every resident who gave us permission to fit dispensers to their walls."
