VOLUNTEERS supporting a Keighley beauty spot will stage a sponsored walk to encourage more people to visit the attraction.

Friends of Keighley (Redcar) Tarn are inviting people to take part in the 10-mile walk at the tarn on Sunday March 24 between noon and 4pm.

Cash raised will go towards replacing benches on walks approaching the tarn and will be used to maintain the natural appearance of this location.

Friends group members Judith Allen, Dorothy Tennant and Molly Plunkett have been working with other volunteers to upgrade the wildlife reserve.

The friends note that routes leading to the tarn from central Keighley are very steep in places, so they would like new benches on these roads.

Judith said: “Keighley Tarn is such a beautiful place and we want to encourage walkers and cyclists to visit, as well as motorists.

"As children we used to walk up here and the routes are well known. There used to be benches where people could rest but over the years they've disappeared.

"It’s too steep and long to walk in one go for many people, so we'd like to make it more accessible for those on foot.”

Keighley West councillor Cath Bacon, who will be among those taking part in the walk, said: "Whether people can only do a couple of laps or the full 29-lap ten-mile walk, every penny raised will go towards the upkeep of this beautiful spot. There'll be volunteers providing a welcome cuppa for anyone taking part."

Sponsor forms can be obtained from Just 4 Paws pet shop in Keighley Market, Highfield Community Centre, Central Hall and via the Friends of Keighley (Redcar) Tarn Facebook page.
