A PRIMARY school is celebrating more sporting success achieved by its year five and six children this month. (March)
Youngsters from Oxenhope Primary excelled in both horse riding and cross country running.
In horse riding year five pupil Amy Campbell-Wright and Maisie Jalil, who is in year six, competed in the Countryside Challenge event held at Haworth Riding for the Disabled.
The pair had to demonstrate their command of a horse, facing challenges such as negotiating obstacles, circling a mock duck pond and handling a mock road junction.
A spokesman for Oxenhope Primary said: "Amy came fourth and Maisie came second. Maisie has qualified for the regional finals, to be held at Wilsden Equestrian centre in May.
"This will give her the opportunity to qualify for the national championships taking place at Hartpury College later this year, which is such a fantastic achievement."
She added the school's cross country success came in the West Yorkshire Schools Cross Country finals, held at Temple Newsam.
"The weather was very wet and the condition of the ground was extremely muddy," she said.
"Alex Sadler-Townsend, from year five, came sixth in his race and has qualified for the national championships to be held on March 23, near Loughborough.
"This is another fantastic achievement, one that we at Oxenhope are very proud of."
