A HOST of local performers are working together to record a fundraising album for Manorlands.

Dozens of singers and musicians answered an appeal from Oakworth man Paul Reynard to contribute to the compilation.

Even local choirs have come forward to offer their voices for the re-recordings of classic hits to raise money for the Oxenhope hospice.

Brian Leach at the Jam on Top recording and rehearsal studio in Dalton Lane, Keighley, offered his facilities to lay down the tracks.

And with so many volunteers, Paul’s project has blossomed into a planned series of albums under the Music for Manorlands banner.

The first recording session was held this month, with Manorlands fundraiser Andrew Wood – who has organised music festivals for the charity –joining the volunteers.

Paul’s inspiration for Music for Manorlands came from his own involvement with the local music scene.

He said: “I’ve got a lot of musical friends and have always liked going to watch live bands. I play the guitar myself but not very well.

“I’ve worked all over the world and seen bands in big venues, and it just makes you realise the strength of talent we have in West Yorkshire.”

Paul put an initial appeal on Facebook and said things “just went mad” within hours with at least 200 people responding with offers to get involved.

He said: “I had to set up a separate page for the project on Facebook.”

Volunteers ranged from solo singers and local bands to an Oakworth choir, Nessfield Primary School and an Asian band.

Paul said: “I originally wanted to do a 10-track album but now there should be a double album as well as a children’s album. I want everyone to perform a cover version.

“Now it’s just a matter of me listening to everyone and coming up with songs for them. I’ll put out a list. I want everyone to get involved in some way.”

The flagship track will be a newly-written song hopefully sung by a well-known artist with schoolchildren singing the chorus.

Paul added: “That will get some publicity for us even if it’s a bit cheesy.”
