WILSDEN Co-op has become the fourth store to be raided by axe-wielding robbers in 17 days.

Armed robbers burst into the Royd Street store shortly before 8.30pm last night and stole cash and cigarettes before fleeing the scene.

Wibsey's Co-op was the first to be raided on March 7, followed by the Queensbury shop on March 20 and the Denholme shop 48 hours later.

Detectives are appealing for information following the latest armed robbery.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Officers were called at 8.27pm last night (Sunday March 24) to reports of a group of males armed with weapons going into the Co-op on Royd Street.

"The suspects demanded money and cigarettes inside the shop which were handed over to them.

"They fled the scene in a Silver C-class Mercedes, which had distinctive black stripes and went in the direction of Main Street.

"The car was later abandoned in Spencer Road in Great Horton and was seized by police.

"The suspects were described as Asian males, wearing balaclavas. Enquiries remain ongoing."

Detective inspector Craig MacKay, of Bradford CID, said: “We're investigating this incident which happened last night in Wilsden. We're particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the car in and around the area or anyone fleeing the scene.

“Our investigation remains ongoing into the circumstances, but we'd urge anyone with information to come forward and speak to the police.”
