HUNDREDS of visitors enjoyed seeing railways in miniature when Aire Valley Railway Modellers’ Club held an open day on Saturday.

Around 17 different exhibits were set up at the Melbourne Mills clubrooms ranging from the micro T gauge to the popular 00 gauge.

One layout was a model named Calderdale and is a 29 foot by 14 foot replica of the rail route from Bradford, through Halifax and Sowerby Bridge.

The vast layout featured had representations of Bradford Exchange, Halifax and Sowerby Bridge stations.

Bob Mackley, a member of the Modellers’ Club, said it had been a good day with people of all ages coming along.

“A lot were enthusiasts and families and young people with their grandparents.

“Railways are popular at the moment and it is good that the enthusiasm is being continued by young people.

“The club has 60 members and 10 juniors and stages a free admission open day twice a year.

“We have them to introduce people to what we do and hopefully encourage a few new members.”

The next exhibition is being held at the club on August 25.

The club was founded at the end of 2015 and has been constantly growing ever since, now boasting almost 60 members with a very active junior group that has more than 10 members.

The club meets every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evening from 7pm to 11pm, and Saturday afternoons from 1pm to 5pm.
