CONSTRUCTION work will not begin on Silsden Primary School next month, says Bradford Council.

A start date for the project cannot be confirmed because officers are still involved in the tendering process.

The council issued a statement following our story last week stating that work would begin on May 7 with a projected completion date of July 20 for next year.

Cllr Rebecca Whitaker, who sits on both Silsden and Bradford Councils, said she had been told the dates by a council architectural officer.

A council spokesman this week said: “We cannot confirm a start date for construction of the new Silsden Primary School building as the tender valuation exercise has not yet been completed.

“We hope work on site can start as soon as possible.”

The new school campus is due to be built to the north-east of Silsden, on fields off Hawber Cote Lane above Silsden Park.

It will provide space for 640 children, including pupils of the existing Silsden Primary School who currently take lessons in the overcrowded former Aire View Infant School and Hothfield Junior School buildings in the centre of Silsden.
