DENHOLME Sailing Club is inviting people and their families to come and try sailing for free next month.

People who might be completely new to the sport or looking to get back on the water are welcome to the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Push the Boat Out event at the club at Doe Park Water Activities Centre on May 4.

It is part of a nationwide scheme which will see thousands of people taking part in sailing, with open days and taster sessions at clubs and centres across the country.

Club commodore Jason Gallagher said: “We’re inviting the local community to come down and have a go at sailing, see what Denholme Sailing Club has to offer and get involved. Who knows, they might just get hooked!

"Starting at 11am on Saturday May 4 there will be a whole host of activities taking place, and people will be able to try out sailing for themselves in one of the club boats with one of our experienced sailors.

"On the day people can also sign up to take part in a 'Start Sailing Course' accredited by the Royal Yachting Association, under the guidance of the club instructors."
