EXPERTS have confirmed “there is no reason to doubt” that a lock of hair contained in a ring which turned up on an antiques TV programme did belong to Charlotte Bronte.
The piece of jewellery, discovered in a Welsh attic, was examined by expert Geoffrey Munn during an episode of the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow.
It had been taken along for scrutiny when the show was filmed at Erddig, in north Wales.
The hinged ring opens to reveal a braid of hair.
Mr Munn said he believed it was “utterly and completely credible” the hair had been that of the author of Jane Eyre, as suggested by an inscription on the ring.
He valued it at £20,000.
And this week the Bronte Parsonage at Haworth, once home to the literary siblings, backed-up his view.
“While the provenance is as yet not entirely clear we have no reason to doubt the ring is genuine,” said a spokesman.
