AROUND 30 volunteers took part in a litter pick at Long Lee.

The team included youngsters from the village primary school.

Members of the village hall organised the event, which is held annually.

Seventeen bagfuls of rubbish were collected during the blitz, which took in areas including Long Lee Lane, Cherry Tree Rise, Royd House Road, the park and parts of Thwaites Brow Road and Moss Carr Road.

Afterwards, free soup was served at the village hall to the volunteers.

And people were invited to give their views on the hall and community issues.

“The litter pick was a great success,” said a spokesman.

“It was also useful to get volunteers’ opinions about what we do at the hall and how residents feel about the village in general at the moment.

“Everyone expressed worries about crime in the community.

“However, there was a positive outlook about the future due to people’s increased engagement in community activities.

“We’d like to thank everyone who supported the event.”
