BUDDING young builders have been given a taste of the trade.

Ten youngsters, aged from eight upwards, joined relatives at a 'bring your daughters to work' day.

The initiative was staged by Keighley social housing group Incommunities, as part of its International Women’s Day celebrations.

A talk was given about careers in construction.

The young people tried their hand at basic joinery skills, under the supervision of Incommunities training staff.

And they then had the chance to put what they'd learned into practice, decorating tabletops with tiles.

Incommunities group chief executive, Geraldine Howley, said: "As a group we are always keen to encourage young people – girls and boys – to show ambition and build careers in areas that best suit their aspirations and interests.

"The day was great fun and hopefully it’s given the youngsters a real insight into construction, an area which might not be an obvious career choice for many girls but one which offers exciting options.

"You never know, we could have inspired another future apprentice!"
