KEIGHLEY Film Club has announced three new movies to make up its summer programme at the town’s Picture House.

The volunteer-run group will screen one of the art-house movies on the third Sunday evening of each month at the cinema in North Street.

The films were chosen after the club committee circulated a ‘longlist’ of films to everyone on its mailing list, who were able to vote for their favourites.

Capernaum (certificate 15) will be shown on May 19, and is a 126-minute drama set in Beirut.

The Oscar-nominated drama portrays the lives of illegal immigrants living in the cramped streets, in and out of juvenile prison.

In particular it is the story of Zain, an angry 12-year-old who is hostile to his parents and society in general and survives on the streets through his wits.

A Private War (15), to be screened on June 16, is a 110-minute biographical drama starring Rosamund Pike.

She plays Maria Colvin, fearless war correspondent who is driven by her desire to bear witness by giving a human face to the suffering of innocent civilians caught up in Syrian war zones.

Colette (15), on July 21, is a 111-minute historical drama starring Keira Knightley and Dominic West.

Colette is pressured into writing two novels published in her husband’s name.

Following the success of the novels she challenges the norm that women cannot write, and insists on recognition for herself and succeeds with an erotic third novel.

Keighley Film Club spokesman Alan Watkinson said all the films were open to the general public, but urged people to join the club.

He said: “The membership subscription is very good value as it provides a quick return on the money spent.

“Due to the arrangements kindly made with Keighley Picture House, members get one or two free screenings, plus a discount for all Keighley Film Club and Picture House screenings.”

All film club screenings start at 6pm, with doors opening earlier at 5.35pm. Films are shown every month except August.
