THE CRAVEN Trust has announced it is donating £8,648 for good causes in Keighley and Craven.

The Craven Trust and its sister Beamsley Trust recently approved the money for beneficiaries including Haworth Parish Church, Highfield Community Centre, and St Anne’s Primary School and the Good Shepherd Centre in Keighley.

A Craven Trust spokesman said St Anne’s, in North Street, asked for funding to further develop their “amazing” garden.

She said: “This area contains a wildlife garden with pond, a bird-hide, mini orchard and mini wildflower meadow.

“The school also has raised beds in which pupils grow vegetables that are then used in the school canteen. The children take part in potato growing competitions as well as helping to grow other fruit and vegetables.

“The Craven Trust have awarded a grant for a greenhouse and bench racking which will mean the children can sow and raise their seeds before the summer holidays and grow a wider range of vegetables.”

One in a Million, based in Bradford, asked for funds to run a Streetwise Football project in Keighley.

Streetwise uses football to get five to 21 year olds playing soccer, in order to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour and promote physical activity and community cohesion.

The Craven Trust has awarded a grant for equipment to help the group get their project underway.

Highfield Community Centre, established in 2002, is used as an access point for family services such as youth projects and adult education classes.

The Craven Trust spokesman said: “The centre committee asked for funding for tables and chairs for their new multi-use room. The trustees understood this would mean they could run additional activities for the community, and awarded them a grant of £1,000.

“Other successful applications in this round were St Michael and All Angels Church in Haworth and Keighley’s Good Shepherd Centre.

“Further afield, the trust awarded grants to the Craven Pupil Referral Unit, Kelbrook and Sough Village Hall, St Mary’s Church at Ingleton, Amerdale Hall in Arncliffe and Skipton Cricket Club, as well as supporting the Craven Rent Bond scheme and three local people in need.”

The Craven Trust, which operates across the entire Keighley area, invites individuals and groups to apply for a grant.

They can also make a donation towards the fund that the trust uses to make its regular grants.
