A SERIES of events is being staged in Denholme to raise awareness of dementia.

DMI Community Centre, in the Mechanics' Institute building, is hosting the activities as part of Dementia Action Week.

Dementia Friends information sessions are being held on Monday, May 20, from 7pm to 8pm, and Friday, May 24, from 11am to noon.

People will be able to learn more about the condition, its effects and how everyone can contribute towards a more dementia-friendly society.

An information event examining the help and support available to people with dementia, and their family and friends, takes place at the centre on Wednesday, May 22.

The session – between 11am and 12.30pm – will include information stands and speakers from the Alzheimer’s Society, Carers' Resource, Dementia Friendly Keighley and The Memory Tree, which will demonstrate some reminiscence activities.

Admission to all the events is free.

Further information can be obtained from Sandra Kelly, community co-ordinator, at DMI Community Centre, Mechanics' Institute building, Main Road, Denholme BD13 4BF, on 07366 493449 or DMICentre@mail.com.
