A NEW community co-ordinator has been appointed in Denholme.

With the support of a Big Lottery grant awarded earlier this year, Sandra Kelly is now in post at DMI Community Centre, in the Mechanics' Institute building.

She will work 15 hours a week, supporting trustees of the new charity running the centre.

Sandra will also support existing user groups, look to facilitate more and help people get maximum use from the building.

"I have received a very warm welcome from the trustees and the management committee," she said.

"I'm looking forward to working alongside such a dedicated group of volunteers and utilising this amazing space to its full potential.

"I have already visited some of the existing groups that use the centre and hope to be able to meet local residents, businesses, services, groups, clubs, etc over the coming weeks and months."

Peter Foster, chairman of the charity, welcomes the appointment.

"I am delighted we have been able to appoint Sandra as our community co-ordinator and we need to thank the Big Lottery for providing the funds for the post," he added.

"This is a new post in a new charity and the experience Sandra brings from her previous role, in establishing the Dementia Friendly Keighley group, will prove invaluable.

"We look forward to an exciting future."
