KEIGHLEY-district groups have just until noon next Friday (May 24) to apply for cash help in the latest round of grants from the West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Safer Communities Fund.

Since the initiative began five years ago, more than £2.6 million seized from criminals under the Proceeds of Crime Act has been distributed to good causes.

Over 600 projects, including many in the Keighley area, have benefited. The most-recent grants included £517 to Wilsden Parish Council to help pay for a street lamp at an entrance to the village park.

A further £200,000 pot has been made available and the maximum grant value has been increased from £5,000 to £6,000.

PCC Mark Burns-Williamson said: “Half the money will be available to projects looking to either tackle drugs and alcohol misuse or develop work focusing on young people, while the other half is for applications looking to address any of the priorities in my Police and Crime Plan.”
