A CROSS Hills man is celebrating his 40th birthday in style – by cycling more than 1,200 miles.
Ben Wood is riding from Ilkley to Bedouin in Provence, France.
He and fellow fundraiser Andy North are raising cash for children’s cancer charity, Candlelighters.
They set-off from bike shop Wheelbase, in Ilkley, where Ben is head mechanic, on June 5, and hope to reach their destination on Saturday (June 15).
The duo – which aims to raise £5,000 – is part of Ultra6, a team which has tackled various charity challenges, achieving world records and raising thousands of pounds.
A team spokesman said: “By the time the ‘boys’ reach their destination they will have done over 100,000ft of ascent.” Their progress can be followed on Instagram @ultra6team and donations can be made at justgiving.com/fundraising/roadtoventoux.
Ben is also raffling a framed, signed KOM jersey won by Rob Scott at this year’s Tour de Yorkshire. Tickets are priced £5, from Wheelbase.
