SILSDEN’s newest major community event celebrates its fifth birthday on Saturday July 6.

Silsden Park Day began on the first anniversary of the weekend the Tour de France went through the town.

The event has been held every year since, and this year’s celebrations of the park will be held between 11am and 4pm.

David Lloyd, one of the organisers, said: “We are really looking forward to this year’s Silsden Park Day, five years since the Tour de France came to Silsden.

“We invite people to visit their park to celebrate this wonderful asset for our town by enjoying the varied activities made specially available on the day, or just relax with a picnic.

“It’s been good to work with the Friends of Silsden Park in preparing for this event, and Silsden Park Day is a good opportunity to come and see the work they have been putting the park.”

The Tour de France’s Grand Depart raced through Silsden in 2014 before the riders moved on to Keighley, Haworth and Oxenhope.

The following year the Silsden Grand deParty group, made of local volunteers, organised summer entertainment to mark the first anniversary.

The first event was a Grand Day Out in Silsden Park, with fun activities for all the family, followed by a Showcase Silsden and the Proms on the Farm.
