A SAILING club pushed the boat out.
The Denholme club was among about 400 nationally which took part in a Royal Yachting Association Push the Boat Out campaign, designed to give people new to sailing a taste of the sport.
Denholme member Tony Lever said the event was a huge success, despite cold and blustery weather.
“We managed to get everyone on the water who wanted a sail – and no capsizes thanks to our experienced members!” he added.
“We’ve a few new recruits who signed-up on the day and they have now completed a ‘Start Sailing’ course.”
Among those who joined was Jonathan Durrans, 35, a support manager for a housing charity.
“The club was very welcoming and even though it was blowing a gale they still managed to get me out on the water!” he said.
“I signed-up for a beginner course and I’m absolutely loving it.”
