A FURRY friend helped youngsters celebrate the second birthday of Silsden Community Library.

BookStart Bear visited a Teddy Bears’ Picnic at the library in Kirkgate to meet 30 children along with their parents and carers.

The children joined in fun and activities, and took home a free sticker book donated by Bradford Libraries. They can collect more stickers on future library visits in June to receive a certificate.

Silsden’s library, which was formerly run by Bradford Council, reopened in the town hall under the management of volunteers on June 9, 2017.

Library press officer Jennie Winterburn said: “This is all down to the amazing 60-strong group of volunteers and a very supportive community.

The volunteers organise Story Time sessions once a month for pre-schoolers, as well as a monthly Science Club for older children and a weekly Chess Club for all ages.

Jenny added: “You can even book a session for one-to-one help with your family history research, or get a copy of one of the popular Silsden Strolls and explore the local area.

“Contact the library or find us on Facebook for more details, @SilsdenCommunityLibrary.”
