A ‘NO-go’ zone for cold callers has been set-up in Keighley.

West Yorkshire Trading Standards Service and Bradford Council have joined forces to launch the initiative.

The zone encompasses Westview Avenue, Grove and Court.

Leaflets and stickers have been distributed to residents and signs erected.

Funding has been provided by Keighley Area Committee.

So-called cold calling control zones are introduced in areas where residents have suffered at the hands of rogue traders, doorstep criminals and pushy sales people.

David Lodge – head of West Yorkshire Trading Standards – said the aim of the initiative was to help prevent doorstep crime, raise awareness of rogue traders and give householders the confidence to say ‘no’ to uninvited callers. “Protecting the safety of our communities is important and that’s why this cold calling control zone is being introduced,” he added.

Keighley Central councillor, Zafar Ali, welcomes the venture. “This empowers our residents and protects them against doorstep criminals and rogue traders,” he said.
