A NEW visitor information point is to be set-up at Haworth – which controversially lost its Bradford Council-run centre at the start of this year.

The new facility will be based within the booking office at Haworth Station, on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway (K&WVR).

Now 'volunteer ambassadors' are being sought to help staff the project.

The initiative is being staged jointly by the steam heritage railway and Visit Bradford – the tourism arm of the council, which sparked a public outcry in the village when it shut the old Visitor Information Centre in Main Street as part of cutbacks.

Anyone "passionate about the local area" and able to spare some time each month is being asked to consider becoming a volunteer ambassador.

Full training will be given.

A drop-in session is being held at Haworth Old School Room on Wednesday (June 26), between 10am and 2pm, where people can find out more.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, the council’s executive member for healthy people and places, said: "This is a fantastic partnership opportunity between the K&WVR and Bradford Council.

"We are fortunate in our district to have people who possess great knowledge about their area and are passionate about letting people know about the opportunities for visitors.

"These are the type of people we would love to see come forward to take part in this innovative project."

Rebecca Atkins, commercial manager on the K&WVR, said the railway was "really excited" to be involved in the project.

She added: "We appreciate the positive impact it will have and feel that it is important for the Haworth community and for tourism in the Worth Valley."
