A VILLAGE has turned back the clock to the Swinging Sixties.

Scooters, classic cars, mop tops, hippies and the sounds of the decade have all featured at Haworth’s annual 1960s Weekend.

A host of events has been held both yesterday and today.

Most activities were in the park, but there were additional attractions in Main Street.

Around a dozen bands and entertainers have performed.

The line-up included Shine, SR Dance and Cheer, Bazzmatazz Dance Studio, Hustle Tone, Haworth Ukulele Group, Sawdust, Dynamix Performance, Last Orders, The Avros, The Reaction, 1960s Four and The Fabs.

There were stalls, children’s fairground rides, inflatables, an array of scooters and cars, food outlets and bars.

H&L Fashions, in Main Street, donated a three-piece suit – worth £320 – to be won.

Many people dressed in outfits from the period, and group fancy dress photos were taken.

Another attraction in the park which proved popular was ferret racing.

“We’re really pleased with how it’s gone,” said Sarah Granby, for the organising team.

“We estimate there were around 2,000 visitors yesterday alone.

“This is the fourth 1960s Weekend organised by the current committee and the event has continued to grow.

“But we do need more volunteers, both to help with the organising and during the weekend itself.

“It’s a small team and we’re going to be losing some people who are moving away.”

She thanked Haworth Scouts, who have helped tidy the park.

And she paid tribute to businesses for their backing.

“We’ve had a lot of support from local businesses which donated prizes etc and we are extremely grateful,” she added.

“We are a registered charity and any money raised is ploughed back into the event to help cover costs and to ensure the 1960s Weekend can continue in the future.”
