KEIGHLEY support agency Roshni Ghar has been presented with the Dementia Recognition Award.

Dementia Friendly Keighley granted the accolade in recognition of Roshni Ghar striving to become dementia-aware as it helps local women with mental health issues.

Roshni Ghar manager Shamim Akhtar said: “We are pleased to receive the award in recognition of our efforts to become dementia friendly, but we also recognise that we need to do more to support those living with dementia.”

Shamim thanked Dementia Friendly Keighley representative Roy Williams for the help, support and awareness sessions he had delivered to the charity.

She added: “The sessions were invaluable, highlighting the needs of those living with dementia and how best to support them.

“Currently, Roshni Ghar works in partnership with Sharing Voices and runs a support group for adult South Asian women who either have a diagnosis of dementia or have caring responsibilities for someone living with dementia.

“We look forward to strengthening our existing partnerships with both organisations.”
