A BALL held in memory of a farmer has raised over £18,000 for Manorlands.

The event was staged as a thank-you to the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice for the support given to the late Keith Fairhurst and his family.

Mr Fairhurst died last year, aged 72.

His widow, Susan, who organised the event helped by family members and close friends, pays tribute to Manorlands.

"Mercifully Keith’s illness was short and we only ever met Sharon (Cole) from Manorlands once but we were offered reassurance and I'm well aware of the incredible work the Sue Ryder charity does – offering care and support to patients and their families at the most difficult time of their lives," she said.

She thanked everyone who supported the ball, which was held at the Stirk House Hotel, Gisburn.

The evening included an auction, raffle and musical entertainment.

Manorlands fundraising manager, Andrew Wood, was among those at the event.

"What a fantastic evening it was!" he said.

"The ball was a huge success and a credit to Keith and his family.

"The amount raised is just brilliant and will make a huge difference to patients and their families locally."
