MEMBERS of a Haworth group are riding high after winning a clutch of medals in an overseas competition.

A four-strong contingent from Haworth Riding for the Disabled (RDA) took part in a Special Olympics in Hamm, Germany.

And the riders came home with no fewer than nine medals between them.

James Reed Griffiths collected two golds and a fourth place; Rose Green won a gold, silver and bronze medal; T-jay Wilson scooped three silver medals and Lucy Hargreaves won gold, plus fourth and fifth places.

"They had a great time and did so well – we are extremely proud of them all," said Jackie Butterfield, for Haworth RDA.

The charity was recently awarded a £470,000 grant from the National Lottery Community Fund, which will help with staff and running costs over the next five years.

Jackie founded the group, with one rider and pony and three volunteers, in 2001.

Now it has 95 regular riders every week, a dozen horses and more than 40 volunteers.

But it desperately needs more people to help out.
