MEMBERS of a Cullingworth school’s vocal group had a high-profile start to their singing careers.

Parkside Showstoppers performed on the stage of the historic St George’s Hall as part of this year’s Bradford School Proms.

The newly-established group of students from years seven, eight and nine made their debut alongside students from three other secondary schools in the district.

Parkside School head of music Claire Skipsey said: "They formed a massed choir, performing three pieces of music. They looked and sounded sensational in the concert and were an absolute credit to our school."

In recent weeks the Showstoppers opened the new Co-op store in Cullingworth.

Claire said: “They performed to a crowd of Co-op head office representatives, members of the local community and proud parents, and they sang beautifully.

“They even made one audience member cry! Each student was presented with some sweeties as a little token of their appreciation.”

The Showstoppers are being invited to perform at the Cullingworth Gala in July.

Choir members recently had an inspiring trip to the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford to watch the musical Annie.

Claire said: “They were originally in the cheap seats, but as one of the team was on crutches they were upgraded to the circle!

“The show was spectacular, with an array of amazing talent from kids their age on that stage. So inspiring for our students, who thoroughly enjoyed the show!"
