FUNDRAISING is officially under way for the Lord Mayor of Bradford’s chosen charities.

The Lord Mayor, Keighley councillor Doreen Lee, is supporting Child Bereavement UK and a Pot of Gold fund.

Her appeal was formally launched with an event at The Broadway, in Bradford.

Child Bereavement UK supports families and educates professionals, both when a baby or child dies or is dying, and when a child is facing bereavement.

The organisation offers a range of free support services to youngsters, their families and carers at locations across the UK.

Every year the charity trains more than 10,000 professionals, helping them to better understand and meet the needs of grieving families.

The Pot of Gold will provide grants for small groups, organisations and projects across Bradford district.

It is particularly aimed at groups within the community and voluntary sector which often struggle to find funding for their projects.

Councillor Lee said: “We have chosen two really worthy appeal charities this year.

“Child Bereavement UK provides vital support to families going through one of the most traumatic events they could experience.

“Meanwhile, the Pot of Gold fund will allow us to support a number of smaller initiatives around the district, making a big difference in the process.

“The appeal would like to be able to offer these smaller pots of funding to enable the groups to fulfil their dreams and enhance their projects further without having to spend extra time raising money.

“We hope to receive lots of applications for grants from groups across Bradford district.”

The Broadway said it was delighted to host the launch event, which was also attended by mascot Bradford Bear.

Ian Ward, the centre’s general manager, added: “Each year the Lord Mayor’s Appeal sees worthy charities showcased and this year is no different.

“And it’s always a pleasure to welcome the Bradford Bear to the centre, as he’s definitely a favourite of our shoppers!”
