SCARECROWS have been rocking out in Long Lee and Thwaites Brow.

The twin village hosted its annual Scarecrow Festival earlier this month, this year adopting the theme of “music”.

A host of replica celebrities and historical figures were on display around the village.

Some were created by residents in their gardens and yards, others by local organisations and businesses.

More than 200 people went along to Long Lee and Thwaites Brow to see the famous folk on show.

The residents and visitors – many of whom come from far afield year after year – followed a Scarecrow Trail and were asked to nominate the best scarecrow.

A treasure hunt was also included as part of the trail, and refreshments were served in the Village Hall.

The event organised by the Village Action Committee raised more than £200 for Village Hall funds.

The winning scarecrow display was entitled Club Tropicana, created by the Crawshaw family and their friends.

The runners-up were the Spice Girls followed by a display entitled ‘Caltonbury’.

The musical Scarecrow Trail followed the success of last year’s event when more than 30 scarecrows were on display around the village.

Organisers also laid on face painting and a children’s craft workshop in the village hall.
