YORKSHIRE Day will this year be celebrated for the first time on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.

Railway volunteers are organising a Yorkshire Day summer fair at Ingrow station on August 1.

The Bahamas Locomotive Society, which has a museum and workshop at the station, will be central to the celebrations.

Spokesman Keith Whitmore, said all locomotives would have a white rose wreath on the front, and the day would start with the first train from Keighley at 10.15am.

He said: “The first wreath will be symbolically placed on the front of the locomotive by our special guest Lord Shutt of Greetland accompanied by the Lord Lieutenancy.

“There will be craft stands in Ingrow yard and Chris Herd from Herd’s Butchers will be bringing his horse and cart selling Yorkshire produce including special Yorkshire day pies.

“There will be Yorkshire Day fun in our Learning Coach and there will be entertainment in the yard including a traditional Yorkshire hat dance and a Morris dancer.”

The Bahamas Locomotive Society spearheaded the recent renovation of the historic locomotive Bahamas 45596 using a £1 million Heritage Lottery Fund grant.

The Duke of Ken recently visited the station to see the train.
