YOUNGSTERS were given an insight into the workings of a chemical company.

Year-four pupils from Sutton Community Primary School visited Airedale Chemical, in Cross Hills.

They took part in experiments, explored one of the firm’s specially-designed fleet vehicles and saw products being packaged and prepared for shipping.

And two pupils won chemistry sets in a quiz designed to test what the youngsters had learned.

The visit was part of an ongoing partnership between the company and the school, aimed at inspiring interest in STEM subjects.

Daniel Marr, Airedale Chemical’s commercial director, said: “We work in the chemical industry day in and day out so these visits from the schoolchildren help us remember that what we do here is incredibly interesting!

“Each department has so much experience and knowledge to share and the pupils are so engaged it makes for a great relationship. The enthusiasm and energy the students bring with them never fails to impress us.”
