THE United Methodist Free Church – also known as Cock Chapel after the weathercock – boasted the tallest spire in Keighley, at 125 feet.

The church opened in 1868 and held its last service in 1937.

The cellar was used by the Keighley Air Training Corps (ATC) 100 Squadron, during the Second World War.

In 1952, the building was demolished due to severe dry rot and the site became Keighley College.

Information is compiled by chairman Joyce Newton and archivist Tim Neal.

The society was formed in 2004 on the 100th anniversary of Keighley’s Carnegie Library.

Its mission is to preserve and share the heritage of the town and surrounding area.

It has guest speaker meetings every second Wednesday of the month in Keighley Local Studies Library, from 7pm.
