A ‘GOOD’ classification by OFSTED inspectors has come at the end of an “amazing” year for Oxenhope C of E Primary School.

Delighted head of school Alice Jones said that together with a strong Ofsted report there had been fantastic SATs results across the school, all above the national results.

She said: “We have had an amazing year and our children, families and staff continue to make this school a wonderful place to be.

“I am extremely proud to be leading this school and I know we will continue to provide the best for our children.

“It was lovely to note that the focus of the inspection was the quality of teaching and the experience the children were receiving at Oxenhope.

“The school was described as a place which has an interesting curriculum, rooted in subject-specific knowledge and skills, which is essential to pupils’ success, now and into their futures.”

Ofsted said the school’s leadership team had maintained a good quality of education since the last inspection, successfully steering the school through uncertain times with effective support from governors and the Bradford Diocesan Academies Trust.

The inspectors said: “You lead with a clear moral sense and the determination that every child will receive the very best. You are clear that although pupils at the school do well compared to national averages they could do even better.

“Now that leadership is secure, the school is well placed to make rapid and sustained progress. Staff morale is high and parents are very supportive of the school.”

The inspectors found that children in Reception were safe and well behaved, with well-established classroom routines and “open and kind” relationships between each other and with adults.

The inspectors added: “Because of strong leadership, more focused, child-specific teaching and greater support, the percentage of pupils reaching a good level has improved significantly.

“Parents are encouraged to play a very active role in their children’s learning. They appreciate and welcome this.”

The Ofsted team saw all teachers and all lessons during their inspection in June this year, the first inspection since 2014.

Early reading and phonics along with maths, writing and oracy was identified as being taught effectively.

Safeguarding was also a focus of the inspection, and it was noted that Oxenhope maintains a strong culture of safeguarding at the school and all staff and governors are up to date in their knowledge and understanding of all aspects of safeguarding.

The Inspector recognised the school’s tenacity in developing strong links with outside agencies.
