THE RAIN held off and the sun shone for most of the afternoon as hundreds of people packed into the playground for Oakworth Primary School’s summer fair.

Children, parents, grandparents and other family and friends joined school staff in an afternoon of fun and fundraising.

The event was organised by the Friends of Oakworth School and the school’s Parental Involvement Worker Helen Scargill.

Money raised is still being counted up, but is expected to be around £1,200.

Attractions included a bouncy castle, hook-a-duck, a strength testing machine, a penalty shoot-out competition, and a welly wang competition.

There was also a long line at the ever-popular stall offering children the chance to throw wet sponges at staff members.

Refreshments were available, including an array of cakes, either made by parents donated by Oakworth Co-op.

There were also stalls to buy books, a wide variety of gifts, and clothes. Officers from West Yorkshire police were in attendance to talk to the children and answer questions.

More than 50 prizes were donated to the pick-a-number draw, from local businesses including the Golden Fleece, the Lemon Tree and Barber 48.

A spokeswoman for the Friends said: “It was a fantastic event which everyone seemed to really enjoy – and we were so lucky with the weather after showers had been forecast for the afternoon!

“We want to say a big thank you to parents, businesses, friends of the school, everyone who contributed to the prize draw and to the tombola, for all their help.

“We’d also like to thank the staff at the school who pulled out all the stops to make sure everything ran smoothly, especially Helen.

“This was a great event which everyone enjoyed, and which raised much-need school funds.
