KEIGHLEY woman Nellie Sutcliffe, who worked on munitions during the Second World War, has died at the age of 102.

Nellie, who lived at home in Riddlesden until last year, was a pupil at Parkwood School and first worked in a mill and office before starting a 25-year career in teaching at Keighley Preparatory School in the early 1960s.

Nellie and her husband, Jack, were married in 1940 and had two sons, Peter and the late David. She has two grandchildren, Richard and Caroline.

Until ill-health late last year Nellie regularly attended activities at Crossflatts Over-50s Community Centre, Ilkley Road senior citizens’ coffee club, the Staveley Court day centre, and Sight Airedale.

Nellie’s son Peter described his mother as outgoing, with a very active social life.

Following her illness last year she moved to Cottingley Hall care home, where some of her friends lived. She was recently taken to Airedale Hospital after a fall, and died peacefully last month.
