STAY AND Play Groups in Keighley have won prizes at the Bradford Libraries Rhyme Challenge Awards.

Staff from Catholic Care’s groups at St Joseph’s RC Primary School and Keighley Catholic Centre attended the recent event at City Hall.

Group leader Rachel Parker won the Best Individual Practice Award, and the St Joseph’s group won the Voluntary Sector Runners Up Award.

Children at the two groups had a busy spring term learning a variety of rhymes including Five Little Speckled Frogs, Jack in the Box and Twinkle Twinkle Library.

Rachel said: “Learning the rhymes enabled the children to share an activity with their caregivers and siblings.

“Each week the children learned a rhyme, and had craft activity to complement it within the sessions. I introduced the programme to several primary schools.”

The groups operate on a Monday and Wednesday during term time and are currently looking for volunteers to help in their development.

Anyone interested should contact Peter Simmons at Catholic Care on 0113 3885400.

The new term begins on Monday, September 9 at St Joseph’s and Wednesday, September 11 at Keighley Catholic Centre.

Contact Rachel on 07739 975025 after September 2 to discuss places.
